Seiko SNZG15 Review

Seiko SNZG15
My rating: 8.5/10, a popular self-winding automatic watch that offers great value for money.

Seiko 5 SNZG15 Review Summary

Today I’m doing a Seiko SNZG15 watch review, you may have also seen this timepiece listed as the SNZG15J1 and the SNZG15K1 respectively.

The Seiko SNZG15 is a very popular timepiece from the Seiko 5 collection. The Seiko 5 collection was put together to offer affordable and well built automatic watches to the masses.

This affordable watch has a well designed dial that’s very easy to read with its contrating white numeral style hour markers that stand out against the black background. The hands on the dial are coated with lume which makes it easier to read in dim lit conditions. You’ll also find a day and date display at the 3 o’clock position.

Protecting the dial of this Seiko watch is a Hardlex crystal glass. You’ll find this on many Seiko timepieces. It’s a specially hardened mineral crystal glass that gives you a good level of protection against scratches and shattering.

Taking a look at the size of the watch for a moment, we find the stainless steel casing has a diameter of 42mm with a thickness of 12mm. This is a popular size for mens watches at the moment.

The strap is made from a comfortable canvas material and fastens with a buckle style clasp. The width of this is 22mm. Note that the strap can be changed if you wish to do so, the gap between the lugs is 22mm. Purchase a watch repair kit for all the tools required for this job.

Powering the watch is a 7S36 caliber self-winding automatic movement. This movement can not be manually wound or hacked. The 7S36 movement has a 23 jewel design and a power reserve of 43 hours when fully wound. It beats at 21,600 BPH which is 6 ticks per second giving you a smooth sweeping second hand movement.

The water resistance rating of the Seiko SNZG15 is 100m. This is suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports. Note that the crown does not screw down on this model.

On the rear of the watch is an exhibition caseback. This allows you view the inner workings of the self-winding automatic movement through the back of the watch.

My Final Thoughts On The Seiko SNZG15:

Overall it’s pretty easy to see why the SNZG15 has proven to be such a big hit. The watch gives you an easy to read display along with lume so that it can be used in darker conditions. It also features a popular automatic movement that never requires a battery. Then of course we have the 100m water resistance rating.
